This beach house is perfect for larger families or a few smaller families to share in the fun together. It is just around the corner from Capitola Beach and all the Capitola Village activities.

I love the neighborhood of this beach house. Location is vital for families to access everything they anticipate while creating the perfect family vacation experience. Situated on the front end of Riverview Ave, You will feel like you are living like a local. Behind your beach house flows the ever-fascinating sights and sounds of the Soquel Creek. The Riverside pathway is in my top 3 places to stroll in Capitola Village. With wildlife that grazes the fluid creek and the paddle boarders making their way to the ocean, there is always something to feast one’s eyes on.

Capitola Beach has many options to choose from to place your beach blankets. If you are looking for some beach water activity, head to the south end of the beach. There you will find the Capitola Beach Company set up to rent SUP, boogie, or surfboards and all the gear needed for fun in the water. This beach is also a welcoming area for families to meet new beach buddies. With a lifeguard on duty and safety as their number one priority, relaxing will be added to the mix for some peace of mind. On the riverside patio, there is also a charcoal BBQ available to use amongst the peaceful setting of the Soquel Creek. It has been newly landscaped and renovated into an idyllic Riverside oasis. Spend sunset time there and enjoy the company of friends and family, reminiscing on your glorious beach day.

Just a few miles North, located in the trendy and colorful downtown Santa Cruz is the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History. Better known as MAH, with rotating art and history exhibitions throughout the year. MAH also has thriving visual and performing artworks, public and cultural celebrations, along with educational and outreach programs. If you are a regular to our area, consider becoming a member and enjoy year-round.

Because of the location of the MAH we encourage you to stick around and enjoy the many wonders of Downtown Santa Cruz. In its own right is a flourishing and colorful downtown with talented street musicians, vibrant people-watching, delicious cafes and restaurants, and unique shops to discover. Downtown Santa Cruz shops offer everything from the always trendy clothing at Pacific Trading Co, unique plants and home decor at Botanic and Luxe, and the original BookShop Santa Cruz. Go explore our neighboring Santa Cruz; it will be sure to put a smile on your face.

To stay in the same theme of your beach vacation, consider visiting Seymour Marine Discovery Center if the rain persists. Take an umbrella and your rain boots just in case as there are both indoor and outdoor activities. Outdoors is expansive with walking and cycling trails to wander about. You’ll be in awe of the numerous skeletons and sculptures of our Marine world. Inside is just as thrilling with live marine life that inhabits our Monterey Bay.

Our Central Coast has so much to explore rain or shine. For some R&R pampering, Well Within Spa offers massage, facials, indoor/outdoor saunas, and soaking tubs. It is a local favorite. In all honesty, what enticed my first visit was their Herbal House Tea Blend serving up since 1985. They serve freshly brewed all day and are complementary with all services. Take a bag or 2 with you and if you find it as addicting as I say, have no worries, they ship!

Should you find yourself wanting to retreat indoors and watch a movie, check out the Del Mar Theater. It’s an Art Deco-style theater with lush red velvet tapestry, serving up all you would expect in a snack bar and so much more Santa Cruz style. The theater is known for featuring Indie Films, weekend-midnight cult classic films, alongside big-budget Hollywood movies.

Don’t let undecided weather stop you from planning a Capitola vacation rental. Let the reservation specialists at Beach House Rentals recommend the right beach house for your stay and help plan any possible weather interruptions. When you Book Direct, you Save! I would imagine this on every list for 2022.

Local Holiday Must-Do’s in Capitola and Santa Cruz

Capitola Local Holiday Must-Do’s

It seems here in the glorious Capitola Village, Holiday-Season is upon us just like that. There is hardly any warning; our weather is pretty amazing October through December and some of our best beach weather is to be had. So how does Capitola get in the Spirit of the Season? I asked a few of our locals about their cherished traditions. At the top of everyone’s list is the Family Tree Cutting adventure. With the Santa Cruz Mountains in our backyard, what a great way to get started and tie in with your Capitola Vacation.

Start with the Six Sisters Beachfront Retreat as your new Holiday Family tradition, home away from home located in Capitola. This beautiful, comfortable and spacious beach house will be the highlight of your family time. While the home can sleep 12 people, there’s as much outdoor living as indoor. A huge fenced-in front yard for fun and games sits adjacent to all the excitement of Capitola Beach. Lifetime memories are sure to happen no matter where you spend your time.

Pick a day to trek the family up to the Santa Cruz Mountains in search of the perfect Christmas Tree. There are 2 locations to choose from at Patchen Tree Farm. Not only is the drive up there beautiful in its own right, but there are also quite a few activities for all ages to partake in, from wreath-making to Santa sightings. Make this adventure one the whole family will want to do year after year.

The lovely living room window back at your beach house can host the pride of your tree cutting. Imagine the twinkling of the lights amongst the glistening of the moonlit ocean while gathered around your loved ones. The relaxation of a beach vacation paired with the adventure of tree hunting will be a family holiday to be remembered for years to come.

Another desirable family beach house is the Luxurious Dream Beach House. This beautiful vacation rental sits just at the beginning of the Capitola Wharf and is steps away from the sweetest beach spot to the right. The two-level beach home has decks on both, with views of the gingerbread-like houses lit up on Depot Hill this time of year. The expansive kitchen and dining area provide enough space for your Holiday feasts; with 4 bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths, comfort is felt throughout the beach house.

Take in some fresh mountain air and head out to the Four Winds Christmas Tree Ranch. Get the family involved to pick the right tree for this exquisite beach house. Any tree you cut down is a flat $70.00 so go big if you choose; the home is meant for grandiose. The Four Winds also serve up gratis, hot chocolate and apple cider on the weekends. They are conveniently open until Christmas. If the timing is right, you might get lucky and have a sprinkling of snow to make it truly magical. It can happen but know your gorgeous beach house awaits you. Dreams do come true here in Capitola Village.

Make this Holiday family time extra special. Experience a couple of other local Must-Do activities in Santa Cruz County. Roaring Camp and the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk offer Holiday Lights Train rides. Either of these gets the anticipation and excitement of the season rolling.

My personal favorite Must-See is the lighted boats at the Santa Cruz Harbor. Bundle up at sunset and walk along the water’s edge and if feeling extra energized go all the way to the spectacular Walton Lighthouse. There is about a 1-2 mile option across the Glen E. Coolidge Memorial Bridge on Eaton St. or cover the entire Santa Cruz Harbor and get your 10,000 steps in.

There are also many benches along the way; you may want to sit, pause and ponder on the wonder of the season in Santa Cruz. The decorated boats glistening upon the water under the moonlight are so beautiful; it makes us realize how blessed we are to be here.

All of us at Beach House Rentals wish you and your families Love and Joy this Holiday Season and may the coming year be one of Health and Hope for all.

Hiking the Redwoods on a Beach Vacay; Why not?

Hiking the Redwoods on a Beach Vacay; Why not?

When you think of a Capitola Beach vacation, usually what’s on the agenda is fun in the sun, waves for days, and romantic sunset strolls; all depending on who you’re sharing the vacation with. Our extraordinary Central Coast, even in the Fall, offers an abundance of much more if you so desire. Let me share with you a couple of my favorite nearby hikes all the while on a Capitola Beach vacation:

Let’s get started on the right path: the beach house. Capitola Cliff Beach House #3 or Capitola Cliff Beach House #4. Either Cliff House is an ideal family and dog-friendly dwelling in which to gather the whole clan. Both beach homes sleep a total of eight each; their front doors are within arm’s length. Imagine celebrating that “once in a lifetime” event or a family reunion at a beach house. Start a new family tradition and make any holiday one to look forward to each year. One day is never enough for those special occasions.

Once that’s settled, take a look at what’s just outside your window. Both beach homes feature 2 incredible balconies with ocean and village views, secure underground parking, and just a stone’s throw away from Capitola Village restaurants, boutiques, and the Capitola Beach shoreline. Spend the day doing all you expect on your Capitola Beach vacation.

When a little adventure is calling, pack a picnic or grab the goods from Reef Dog Deli and head out for a full day of fun to my “go-to place” of Fall Creek. This gorgeous area of Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park has a little something for everyone; The Lime Kilns Loop is perfect year-round, rain or shine, cool or warm, little legs to longer ones; these trails lead the imagination to run wild.

If some of the group choose to do the entire loop in one full decent cardio hike, go for it. You’ll “loop” around in no time to join the others. There are many stopping points along the creeks trail to explore the wonders of the changing season happenings for those who want to take it all in.

The lovely forest floor in the Autumn months is plentiful with colorful leaves, thirsty moss, and ferns and bright yellow banana slugs. There are unique little bridges to cross, rocks to skip or climb, and nooks in which to lay out your blanket of snacks. If you should find yourself here in the Spring, Fall Creek is alive with colorful wildflowers and baby wildlife. Look, listen and breathe in all of Mother Nature year-round.

For you, Type A personalities, Capitola Cliffs Beach House #1 aka Beautiful Oceanview Condo is just that. Outside the glorious glass wall of visual eye candy is a full day of adventure. Let your daytime drive begin with a brisk walk to the Capitola Wharf. Move on to renting a surfboard at the Capitola beach and then energize the rest of your night with the music scene at The Sand Bar. All this awaits you just outside your door. However, the simple, organized elegance of this beach house may entice you to stray just a little and relax.

Can I entice you with a trailblazing 11.6-mile hike through the Forest of Nisene Marks?  Bridge Creek Trail to Maple Falls is the perfect balance of venture, challenge, and ambition. To begin with, you may not think so, but as you delve deeper in and realize there’s no turning back until you reach the anticipated waterfall, just know that a lovely Beach House awaits you. You know, the one with the peaceful ocean views, a cozy fireplace, and comfy bed to dream about tomorrow’s agenda. My guess is, you’re going to get that much-needed repose whether you like it or not.

Fun in the sun or under a canopy of trees; you can have it all on your Capitola vacation. Book direct and save @ Beach House Rentals The variety of activities is endless and our team is here to help you choose the perfect beach house for your wants and needs. We love it here year ‘round but something about Autumn makes us fall in love all over again. We welcome you to share the experience.

Sunset Heaven at Aptos Beach Drive

Aptos Beach Drive Sunset

I’m not sure if I’ve ever said this in my lifetime but I’m kinda looking forward to the time change this year. Why would anyone wish this? Sunsets, of course! For me, catching these in the summer months wrecks havoc on the recommended 8 hours of sleep. Besides, this time of year the changing weather patterns result in the most glorious sunsets. I can catch both sunsets and sunrises and still get my beauty rest during these earlier beauties.

Where better to indulge in this… aboard the SS Rio Del Mar vacation rental, where fantasy meets reality in the most dreamy way. Aptos Beach Drive Boat House is the perfect place for the soul to enjoy. Imagine yourself amid our most undeniably beautiful central coast landscape. Whether mother nature gives you pristine, sunny skies or rapturous, moody clouds, this fun filled beach house will grant you memories to last a lifetime.

The Rio Del Mar beach house sleeps 6 guests comfortably, and provides all the necessary amenities to never really have to anchor and dock. The Master bedroom hosts a comfy, cozy King size bed in which to take in the compelling ocean views. Open the sliding door and let the waves lure you to drift away or waken when the body is ready.

The guest bedroom is perfect in its own right. You really do feel as if you are on the bow of a ship and sailing past the iconic SS Palo Alto aka ol’ Cement Ship. A perfect backdrop for nighttime stories of Sea Adventures and Pirate Tales.

Besides everything in a Galley the chef could want, the expansive Port Side in which to watch TV or the waves rolling in, or the Mess Deck to fill the appetites of the day; luxury is spent in the tranquilizing, spa-like bathroom. Climb in the jetted tub, sink into oblivion, and let no worry get in your way; you are in harmony with what is outside that window.

When you find yourself ashore, either direction will offer miles of sand and water for all activities in the plans. The distinctive beach flats just around the corner offer a variety of dine in or take out options to accommodate those plans. Some local favorites are Flats Bistro and Pixie Deli.

Of course there are many other options for chasing sunsets around the Central Coast. A Capitola local favorite is on Depot Hill. Walk up the heart pumping, 86 stair steps located just behind Mijos Taqueria (you may as well grab a couple tacos to take with you) and pick your spot among the many benches provided.

You can also meander up there through the walkway along Monterey Ave to the quaint Hihn Park. Pick up a Blue Plate Dinner on your way from the delectable Gayle’s Bakery and Rosticceria and enjoy your meal amongst the open skies.

Depot Hill

If sunset time and a stroll among the quaint streets of Capitola Village is your way of winding down the day, a warm beverage from Zelda’s Coffee Bar is sure to set the mood. “Get lost” while wandering in and out of the many intertwining paths and take in the wonder of the skies. This walking map of Capitola will guide you along your evening’s journey so you can cover all Capitolas charm.

With so many places to explore and chase sunsets, the list is endless here on our incredible Monterey Bay Coast line. Why not add a beach vacation in a Beach House and capture a Sunrise and a Sunset throughout your stay. A Boat House on the sand! Chasing Sunsets! How cool is that without losing a wink!

CharcuterieBefore you make your way to some of our favorite Capitola picnic areas, you’re gonna need your picnic setup. There are a few great eateries in Capitola Village to pick up some goodies for a delicious picnic in the sunshine. One of our favorite go-to places is the Reef Dog.

This vintage Capitola cottage deli has handcrafted sandwiches and a great selection of cheese and charcuterie. Pick up their “Beach Box,” a small selection of meats, cheese and sides, or their full charcuterie platter (advanced orders required for this one).

Castagnola Deli is also a good choice for a meat and cheese set-up for your picnic. Their “Beach Box 2 Go” has different options to choose from. Select a cheese, meat and cracker box, a sandwich combo box, veggie & hummus box, and more!

Ordinary things to do in Extraordinary times or Visa Versa

Any way you look at it, Capitola Village is extraordinary at all times! With Covid lingering in our lives, Beach House Rentals wanted to share new things happening in our “Happy Place” and some ideas that will keep you and your families moving in positive ways toward the future.

All of our Capitola Village beach homes come equipped with kitchens to cook up your meals but sometimes, why bother? CAPITOLA VILLAGE RESTAURANTS have been whipping up feasts all along these current obstacles. They just want to feed you and are ever-so-happy to please your appetites. Whether dining outside on their cozy curbside bistros or taking it to go, the beach and your lovely abode are all within walking distance.

Our newest Capitola Village restaurant family member is Reef Dog Deli. We anxiously awaited to see this one open, conveniently across the street from our Beach House Rentals office. They have something for every whim, every taste bud, every weather condition. Today, I’m diggin in to the Reefy’s {Smoked beef brisket pastrami, melted Vermont sharp cheddar, Guinness Stout caramelized onion relish, stone ground mustard, on toasted Jewish rye} and probably later in the afternoon I may just grab a quick, melt in your mouth, lemon cookie and ……. Oh yes, back to work!

With the new kid in town, let’s not forget about our ol’ loyal village favorites. Who leaves town without a slice and a Tee from the 1st original 1981 landmark Pizza My Heart? Take your slice or the whole pie over to the colorful tiled beach sea wall to catch the glorious sunsets this time of year.

Need to get your steps in before settling down for sunset hour?  Head on up to Gayle’s Bakery & Rosticceria for their amazing Blue Plate Dinner nightly special. It’s a locked in favorite among locals. Continue your trek up to another local gem at HIHN PARK Linger down your evening there with plenty of distance from others and capture the entire Capitola Village simmer in color.

With the ocean breeze, the gentle waft of waffles will lead you straight to Souza’s Ice Cream & Candy. Creamy delights stuffed inside freshly made waffle cones topped with your heart’s desire to make all we’ve been through worth it. Wander along the riverwalk taking your time with every delectable lick and enjoy the comings and goings of the flowing Soquel Creek. Active with ducks and seagulls, occasionally a Great White Egret or Green Heron can be spotted, along with other various bird species.

As we adjust to the changing times some of us may not want to go back to exactly how things were. Tight scheduling, juggling all the family’s activities left many of us exhausted just looking at the daily calendar. We’ve figured out we’re more comfortable at home; more motivated and able to fit things into our schedule. Exercise isn’t a dreaded word anymore. The creativity of Virtual exercise class has taken over how we view a much needed healthy habit.

The thing is even on vacay when you’re at your home away from home, and you’ve devoured a  Reefy’s sandwich, a couple of slices of pizza and a “settle the tummy with a sherbert” psych you can still participate in your exercise routine any time you darn well please.

Our Capitola Merchants have done an awesome job of keeping the shopping needs of visitors and locals open and safe. I’ve noticed the kindness and patience of both shopkeepers and shoppers. I certainly appreciate not only safe space, but space in general to get a good look at new arrivals and maybe things that are always offered but have missed “seeing” in the past. While waiting for your turn to go in, take advantage of the creative window displays. They’re always changing and once inside you may not see it the same way. They are meant to entice you in but now they captivate you to linger and visually enjoy.

Need to spread your wings, maybe do something you never thought of doing? Let this link Capitola Wharf lure you in. Try your hand at fishing off the pier, no license required! Capitola Boat and Bait will hook you up with everything needed. Or if you’re up for the challenge the Bay offers, they will set you up for a fun filled day on the water.

When all is said and done the Wharf House is the perfect spot to wind down your day. Let the surrounding sounds, the intoxicating aromas and the visually stimulating Pacific Ocean remind all of us of the blessings we are sure to find in these extraordinary times.
