Located two miles north of Santa Cruz and inland from the Natural Bridges State Marine Reserve and State Beach, Wilder Ranch State Park is a gorgeous historic attraction worth visiting during your time in Santa Cruz. Learn more about Wilder Ranch State Park in Santa Cruz down below!
Come Explore the Wonders of This Beautiful Attraction
Once a dairy ranch belonging to the family of Delos D. Wilder and a Mexican rancho before that, many of the historic ranch buildings in Wilder Ranch State Park not only still remain standing, but have been restored into museums that cover the local history of Santa Cruz and the history of the early ranching trade in California. There are also farm animals that live on the grounds of the park that visitors can see.
Besides the wonderfully informative museum and the cool old-fashioned farm houses, Wilder Ranch Santa Cruz is also a great place to explore nature and get your blood pumping. The park is home to upwards of thirty-five miles of trails for biking, hiking, and horseback riding. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on these trails nor anywhere in the park, so if you’re travelling with your four-legged companion, you’ll want to leave them at home for this excursion.
As we mentioned earlier, Wilder Ranch State Park borders the Natural Bridges State Marine Reserve and the adjacent state beach of the same name. You can access the beach and see the iconic rock formations just offshore by journeying along the coastal bluffs of the park. Alternatively, you can also take the trails up into the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Wilder Ranch State Park’s hours last from 8:00am until sunset, and the Visitor Center and store are open from 10:00am until 4:00pm on Thursday through Sunday. Day-use fees for vehicle parking are $9.00 for seniors ages 62 years or older and $10.00 for a regular-sized vehicle. Bus parking options are also available for groups of ten or more people.
Events and tours are free, such as the Wilder Ranch Living History Demonstrations and Ranch Tours that takes place between 11:00am and 2:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Hour-long tours of the grounds are given at 1:00pm on both days.
